The Frost and Granger-Inspired Wisconsin Centrals Depots - Part IBy David J. LeiderIn 1900, the Wisconsin Central was out of bankruptcy and President Henry F. Whitcomb prepared a preliminary report for the Board of Directors for improving the property. Included was the statement: "Station buildings from time to time prove inadequate for the enlarged business and as the towns grow ther is pressure to provide better accomidations and these matters must be dealt with from time to time as they come up. No general plan can be made up that will be at all accurate and no large amount needs to be expended during any one given year, but when the necessity arises at a given point it must be dealt with." ... |

The Lake Superior Terminal & Transfer Railway - Part IIby Andy Roth The LST&T handled an interesting passenger business without ever operating a passenger train itself. The Terminal built and operated Union Depot on its trackage for three of its owners. An LST&T employee operated the ticket office and baggage room in Union Depot. The Omaha built its own Superior, WI depot but its passenger trains did use some LST&T trackage on their way between Superior and Duluth viathe Wisconsin-Minnesota drawbridge. ...
