New Hobby
Shop for Madison, Wisconsin -
"Madison Hobby Stop"
by Todd Brown
To the relief of model railroaders in the heart of
Badger country, a new hobby shop has opened it's doors in Madtown.
After the closings of Midvale Hobby and Hobby Craft in Madison
over the last year, Madison modelers lost the convenience of having
an expansive hobby shop with a large train selection within the
city limits.
That changed in October of 2004 with the opening
of "Madison Hobby Stop", a new hobby shop specializing
in model railroading as well as rockets, military models, and modeling
publications. The selection of HO and N scale products is most
impressive. Add in the fact that the owners are big Soo Line enthusiasts
and SLHTS members, and you will be even more impressed by the the
selection of Soo Line rolling stock and locomotives. Over eight
of the new Atlas HO Soo U30C locomotives are in stock (see below),
as well as the new Athearn Genesis Soo Line F3 units in maroon
and gold. Accurail Soo Line "wheat stalk" ACF hoppers
and new Walthers "Gold
Line" ballast hopper 3-packs are also in stock in HO scale.
There is also a large selection of Soo Line locomotives and rolling
stock in N scale.
Special orders are also welcome at Madison Hobby
Stop. This past week, Greg and Chris were able to obtain the new
Atlas HO Soo Line work cabooses in the brown and white color scheme
for me. Sweet models they are!
What is especially appealing about Madison Hobby
Stop is their attention to maintaining a large inventory of railroad
products that feature regional road names. SOO, GBW, MTW, MNS,
CNW, DMIR, IC, CP, and CN rolling stock and locomotives are the
rule, not the exception. The stable of manufacturers also spans
the gamut: Kato, Proto 2000, Athearn, Walthers, Accurail, and Red
Caboose to name just a few. There is also an entire wall full of
HO scale locomotives to drool over.
With the weather getting colder and the modeling
RR bug starting to bite everyone, it's a great time to check into
this super hobby shop!
Madison Hobby Stop is owned and operated by Chris
Roosli, George Stahl, and Greg Stahl.
