SOO GP40 #4648 in Action on June 6, 2004 at Portage, Wisconsin.

Soo #4648 is one of several GP40s that were aquired as part of the Milwaukee Road merger. However, only four GP40s were delivered from the manufacturer wearing the Soo Line "hockey stick" paint scheme (#732-#735). #4648 is seen here preparing for a run to Windsor and Madison, Wisconsin on June 6, 2004. It would join five other 4-axle geeps on the run to Madison that evening. Soo GP38-2 #4445 would also make the run with #4648. The GP38-2s were purchased in much larger numbers (53 original units) than the GP40s. The GP40s are most easily distinguished by the three radiator fans versus only two sported by the GP38-2s.
