OUCH!!!

by Todd Brown

This past summer, I had the opportunity to visit the St. Paul yard and Dayton's Bluff on July 13, 2002. It was my first time to the St. Paul yard, and I immediately fell in love with it. I have never seen so much SOO power since my days in North Fond du Lac, WI in the 1970s. I've made the trip to St. Paul a couple of times since that day.

What immediately caught my eye was SD-60 #6021 sitting outside the engine house sans it's motor. I don't know the reason for the engine removal, but I hope that the engine was being serviced/overhauled rather than removed and disassembled for scrap parts. Hopefully the cowl segment won't show up at this year's SLHTS annual convention/auction.

Fortunately, #6021 was seen later in the year at St. Paul in full operational order.
