SOO/UP Motive Power Lash-up in Portage

After spending all day Saturday at the MadCity Railshow in Madison on Saturday, February 15, 2003, I had an uncontrollable desire to get out and see the real thing. And to the best of my knowledge, the best place to see SOO motive power still in action in Wiscsonsin is at Portage, just 45 minutes from my home in Middleton. Here are some pics from that frigid day (5 degrees F).

I don't think I ever seen a SOO (or CP for that matter) diesel hooked up to a UP unit. SD-40-2 #6601and "partner" UP SD-40-2 were photographed idleing just west of the yard in Portage on a beautiful Sunday morning.
