Soo 700 and 2500 Run Again

Text by Steve Glischinski; Photos by Dave Schauer.

Former Soo Line equipment was heavily used in Lake Superior Railroad Museum's second annual "Railfan Weekend" on September 5-7 in Duluth, Minnesota. On September 6, two hoto trains were operated over the North Shore Scenic Railroad between Duluth and Two Harbors. One train was a Soo Line "extra" with Soo GP30 no. 700 (freshly repainted by volunteers the weekend before), FP7 2500, and Soo caboose no. 1 trailing 10 borrowed DM&IR ore cars. Several run-bys were held. For one set of run-bys at Knife River, the number boards of thte 2500 were switched with those from long-scrapped Soo F7A 2230-B.
