Pullman-Standard PS-2 34' Covered Hoppers

Produced by Atlas exclusively for the SLHTS using artwork developed and provided by the society.

The oxide red Atlas covered hoppers represent Pullman-Standard PS-2 1957 Soo series 6845-6893, odd numbers only. Also built in 1957 were PS-2 W.C. series cars 69047-69098, all numbers. The W.C. cars were identical to the Soo cars except for the number seires and the small W.C. lettering in the upper left corner of the car side. The gray Atlas PS-2 covered hoppers with black lettering represent the small 1958 Soo series of cars 6901-6909, odd numbers only. Another very similar small series of gray cars (6911-6919, odd numbers only) was also built in 1958, but by American Car and Foundry.

These distinctive assembled Atlas models feature accurately scaled lettering developed by the SLHTS as it was applied to the cars when built by Pullman-Standard. End lettering is applied behind the end bracing on the slope sheets. The grey cars carry the sublettering "For granule loading only. Return to Soo Line when empty for Kremlin, Wis." Unique to these cars are the prototypes' unusual shapes of the "S" in the billboard "SOO LINE." Some of these cars lasted in their original paint schemes until the 1990s.
