The SLHTS's first book
Freight Cars of the Soo Line
Targeted for publication fall 2009.
Members of the SOO staff are currently compiling a book of Soo Line freight cars and cabooses. The time period covered spans the railroad's entire history through the CP cars delivered with SOO reporting marks. Some historic black-and-white photos will be used, but the bulk of the book is comprised of large color photos. Sections of the book include:
- Cabooses
- Boxcars
- Reefers
- Stock cars
- Gondolas
- Hoppers
- Ore cars
- Covered hoppers
- Flat cars
- Intermodal equipment
- and more...
The book is organized by car type, with photos in chronological order by their acquisition by the Soo Line, in their original paint scheme when possible. Repaints are shown separately.
We hope to offer the book in both hardcover and softcover editions.
A companion CD is planned with technical data such as rosters, diagrams, and more.
The book is now in the layout stage.
